Location | ★★★★★ |
The Rossio Plaza Hotel is situated in the heart of Lisbon, on the bustling Rossio Square. This prime location offers easy access to many of Lisbon’s top attractions. The Santa Justa Lift is just around the corner, providing panoramic views of the city. For people watching and shopping, head to Rua Augusta, and for a ride on the traditional tram, the Tranvias Eléctricos stops are only a couple of blocks away. The hotel is also conveniently close to mass transit via the Rossio Train Station and the Restauradores Metro station. We give Rossio Plaza a solid five stars rating for location.
Room | ★★★★★ |
Our room at the Rossio Plaza Hotel was a 237 sq ft corner room located in the northern wing. The two windows provided a lovely view of Rossio Square, and one of them even offered a glimpse of the Santa Justa Lift. The room was well-appointed and modern, with immaculate cleanliness. The bedding was comfortable, and the towels were fluffy, enhancing our overall comfort. The bathroom featured large porcelain tiles and a rain shower, which was a delightful treat after long walks on the hilly streets of Lisboa. Espresso marker and a good size safe. Considering this hotel is in the moderate category, the room was a solid five stars.
Service and Staff | ★★★★★ |
Staff was cordial and efficient. We got to the hotel early after our AM arrival from our transatlantic flight. As expected, the room wasn’t available. The staff secured our luggage, and it was already in our room when we checked in. When asked for directions to nearby attractions, particularly the tram stop, the staff was knowledgeable and gave clear instructions in English. Here too, we give a five-star rating.

A gem of a hotel and great value for the money. The excellent reviews make this hotel very popular, and you would not be able to get a room unless you reserve months in advance, particularly in high season. If you can request a room, I recommend a corner room with a view of Rossio Square.

How We Review Hotels
To help you align your expectations, we categorize hotels into four groups: budget, moderate, premium, and luxury, from the least expensive to the most expensive in each market.
This way, we ensure that we’re comparing apples to apples. A budget hotel we rate five-stars is not necessarily a better choice than a luxury hotel that we rate four-stars; it’s all about managing expectations within each price category.
Different markets have different expectations, and we take these into account by comparing properties within the same price category for each market. For example, for a moderately priced hotel in Bangkok, I expect a pool on the premises; this is not the case in most American and European big cities.
Our star ratings reflect these expectations on each aspect of our hotel experience:
5 stars – Exceeds expectations
4 stars – Meets expectations
3 stars – Missing key features
2 stars – Below expectations
1 star – Not acceptable
For the overall rating: We recommend hotels rated 4–5 stars. Consider but not ideal, on the 3 star range. We do not recommend hotels rated below 3. Medal-awarded hotels are standouts within their price category and offer an exceptional experience considering the category.
In those cases where we find a hotel that we rate with a perfect five stars, we award the following medals according to each category:
- Budget: Good, Nice, and Affordable.
- Moderate: Exceptional Value.
- Premium: Premium Excellence.
- Luxury: Unforgettable Experience.
We believe that by following this methodology, we help our readers make more informed and satisfying travel choices.
